There’s so much variety in delicious Champagne these days, and we bring in whatever we feel is the most compelling wine to offer, without any other agenda. When we take stock each December, factoring in all of our buying decisions and dreaming of the most exciting bottles we’ve tasted throughout the year, one style seems to inevitably reign supreme at MWC – Blanc de Blancs. A quick refresher for those unfamiliar with the terminology – Blanc de Blancs (“White from White”) Champagne refers to a wine that has been made exclusively from white-skinned grapes into a white wine. In Champagne, the grape is most often Chardonnay. This is in contrast to a Blanc de Noirs ("White from Black"), which is mostly Pinot Noir & Meunier, or a blend.  

Again, there’s not a calculated plan to make this the most represented style of Champagne at the store. Do we find ourselves reaching for BdBs more often than others? Yes, probably. Many are as versatile and refreshing as Champagne comes. Is BdB in and of itself a diverse category? Most definitely. There are weightier, more powerful iterations that fit best on the table next to substantial fare and lacier, racier renditions that are ideal as aperitifs and with more delicate food. We’re immensely fond of Blanc de Blancs in all its forms and happy to revel in the moment that this style is undoubtedly enjoying right now.
