2017 White Burgundy Roundup

We sent out a note last week recapping our 2017 red Burgundy stocks, and today we’d like to focus on the white side of things. Burgundy vintages can often have a clear winner between reds and whites, but the honors are shared in the 2017 vintage. From Chablis to Mâcon, there are lovely examples from all across the region. Like the reds, the best whites show generosity, solid concentration of fruit, and wide-ranging aromatics. Though this is thought of as a solar vintage, good examples show palpable freshness that is expertly woven with their innate density. Again, finding a vintage twin is a tough ask, but we’re in agreement that this is the most widely compelling white vintage since 2014, with similarly profound expressions in the best wines. We’ve also heard further favorable comparisons to 1992, wines that were irresistible early on and have aged with great distinction.

We have 30+ examples to show you today across prices and appellations, with rare gems and rising stars all represented. As we said last week, the extremely high quality of the vintage itself is plenty of motivation to dive in headfirst to these delicious wines. The uncertainty of potential future tariffs on European wine, in addition to the ones that have already gone into effect since late 2019, help make a further case for loading up. We’ll continue to do so ourselves while we can and are pleased to share the wide selection below today.
