The Vino Nobile from Poderi Sanguineto is one of the last traditional wines made in the town of Montepulciano. Dora Forsoni learned how to make wine from her father, starting in 1968, and has not changed her methods since then. Her vineyards are planted not only to Sangiovese, which has come into vogue for Vino Nobile in emulation of the more famous wines of Brunello di Montalcino, but also include 20 - 30% Mammolo and Canaiolo. This combination lends the wine extra fragrance and helps to soften the more angular nature of Sangiovese. Dora has always farmed organically, fermenting her wines in concrete with the Vino Nobile spending two years in large old casks before bottling. The 2016 vintage is an utterly charming wine full of bright red fruit and fresh violets on the nose. The palate is supple with silky tannins and buoyant acidity that lift its juicy texture. This is a fuller bodied, crowd-pleasing wine that works well with pizza and pasta nights, but is also fun with grilled meats or richer foods. It is compelling enough to drink on its own, but will certainly age extremely well. Simply put, a Vino Nobile like no other.

PODERI SANGUINETO I & II - ROSSO DI MONTEPULCIANO 2018
The Rosso di Montapulciano is cut from the same cloth as the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. In fact, all of her wines start out life as Vino Nobile, made from the same plot of vines planted with Sangiovese and 20 - 30% Mammolo and Canaiolo. As the wines age, Dora decides which casks to declassify as Rosso di Montepulciano, and which to age further to become Vino Nobile - which spends two years in large casks before bottling. The Rosso di Montepulciano captures the same compelling aromatics of the Vino Nobile, but on a lighter frame with less pronounced tannins. Expect bright red fruit, subtle floral notes, and sweet spices cut by bright acidity.
