Dupont-Fahn - Bourgogne Blanc, Chaumes Des Perrières 2017 (750ml)

$37.99 | 24+ Available

Dupont-Fahn is a rare Burgundy producer whose most famous wine might be their Bourgogne Blanc produced from a single vineyard called Chaumes des Perrières. The climat has a colorful history in Burgundy that started back in the 1970’s with the founding of the Dupont-Fahn estate. Monsieur Dupont-Fahn had purchased the parcel perched just above the 1er Cru of Perrières in Meursault with an eye to replant it to Chardonnay. The problem was the topsoil, there just wasn’t enough to allow the vines to take root and survive their first few vintages. He petitioned the authorities to allow him to add a thin layer and they permitted him to do so. His neighbors on the other hand were outraged that someone would tamper with the hallowed Burgundian terroir by adding soil and demanded the parcel be declassified to Bourgogne Blanc, which was done the following year.

What we are left with is a parcel of 40-year-old vines that have long ago dug through the soil amendment in a prime vineyard in Meursault that legally has to be bottled as Bourgogne Blanc. This wine comes from fabulous Meursault terroir located just above Coche-Dury’s holdings in Perrières and frankly, curiosity got the better of us, so we tasted a bottle last week. The wine was simply electric. More than anything it was the tension and subtle complexity of the wine that put a smile on our faces. This isn’t flashy or opulent Meursault. Raymond Dupont-Fahn, the current owner of the estate, harvests earlier than many of his neighbors and tends to keep new oak to a minimum. It has a chiseled minerality that recalls clean spring water with just a touch of rich golden orchard fruit on the palate. Its quite a wine, especially when you consider the fact that its costs less than $40. It’s an almost unheard-of value in Burgundy that we are happy to share while we can.

This is a wine you'll want to buy by the case, and we are offering 10% off on orders of 12 bottles or more.

Cheers,
