Nicolas Mariotti Bindi overlooking some of his headtrained vines in Patrimonio

Corsica is an island rich in history and a geologically singular piece of land. The island itself is spectacular, with landscapes as variable and stunning as any place in Europe. You can swim in crystal blue waters, dry off, hop in the car and in 30 minutes be staring up at snow-capped mountains. The wines of the island are as fascinating and world class as the scenery. Until recently, many impressive wines were a relative secret, except to island natives and savvy collectors. We’ve fallen deeply in love with these wines over the years and are convinced all fine wine roads lead to Corsica.

Case in point is Nicolas Mariotti Bindi’s excellent Patrimonio property, an estate that produces finessed Corsican wines at accessible price points. Nicolas originally left the island to become a lawyer on the French mainland but felt drawn back to a life in the vines.  After stints working in Moulin-a-Vent and with Corsican legend Antoine Arena, in 2007 he founded his own winery in Patrimonio. Patrimonio is an appellation located at the base of the Cap Corse peninsula on the northern tip of the island. Here, Niellucciu, the Corsican variant of Sangiovese, finds its apogee. The 2019 Cantina di Torra rouge brilliantly captures so much of what we love about Corsican wine. The wine sports vibrant fruit loaded with garrigue and smoke on a lithe frame that screams of its Mediterranean origin. It is a tantalizing wine that is as compelling as it is thirst quenching. For anyone who isn’t yet excited about Corsican wine, we’d encourage you to give this bottle a shot.

We are offering a 10% discount on purchases of 6 bottles or more of Bindi's Cantina di Torra Rouge now through midnight, Sunday 6/6.  Add 6 bottles to your cart and the discount will automatically apply.

Cantina di Torra - 2019 Patrimonio Rouge, Niellucciu
24+ BOTTLES AVAILABLE
$25.99/BOTTLE | $23.39/BOTTLE ON 6 BOTTLES OR MORE
The estate is now comprised of 15 hectares of largely head trained vines that are farmed organically. The Cantina di Torra rouge is drawn from a north facing plot of Niellucciu with vines ranging from 10-50 years old. The cuvée serves as an entry point to the winery’s offerings, intentionally made to be enjoyed young upon release. The 2019 Cantina di Torra rouge sports crunchy, dark fruit with Mediterranean herbs, moist earth, and just a whiff of smoke.  The palate is quite lifted with only 12.2% alcohol and faint tannins; that said the wine really begins to show 30 minutes after opening when the more savory flavors give way to pure, joyous fruit. This will pair with all sorts of foods but is a perfect match for grilled sausage, pepperoni pizza, charcuterie, or summer tomatoes. Hand harvested, fermented whole cluster, aged in concrete tanks for 6 months.  Bottled unfiltered with minimal sulfite additions.
