We’ve made it no secret how much we adore the wines of Beaujolais. They are some of the world’s most unambiguously delicious bottles and are sterling values in the world of fine wine. Beaujolais is a joy to drink in its youth, brimming over with unchecked energy and they are endlessly versatile at the table at all stages of their life. While Beaujolais is most known for its innate youthful exuberance, it almost does a disservice to how well the top wines can develop with age.

In Beaujolais there is perhaps no estate more important in our minds than Domaine Jean Foillard. Foillard’s wines represent some of the most complete bottles of the category, always vividly energetic on a taut and balanced frame. These wines exemplify exactly why we adore top Beaujolais so much in the first place. Its true that Jean Foillard’s bottles are not inexpensive in the context of Beaujolais, but they are immensely affordable in the context of top Burgundy, which is frankly how we should really be contextualizing these great wines. There is no secret ingredient or ineffable magic formula employed at the estate; rather, Jean has relied on a simple approach for many decades to craft his wines.  His holdings have been farmed organically since the 1980’s and are largely planted to very old vines, many approaching 100 years of age. As a student of Jules Chauvet, his program in the winery has always relied on native yeast fermentations and patient elevage in barrel without manipulation. The result always seem to speak for themselves; the wines are compelling and totally unforced in a way that only naturally produced wine can be.

Foillard’s 2019s have just arrived, and we are excited to share them with you today. 2019 is a classic vintage that yielded wines of high quality albeit in limited quantity due to spring frost and hail in the summer. Expect wines with less texture and weight than 2018 but with immense precision and lift. If you prefer to compare the vintages side by side, we have good stock on Foillard 2018 Corcelette, a sensational wine with many years ahead of it yet.  For any Beaujolais lover, these wines are not to be missed!

Today through Sunday 8/15 we are offering a 10% discount on a purchase of 6 bottles of Foillard or more from this offer.  The discount will be manually applied after checkout online. The wines below are offered on a first come, first served basis. THE WINES

2019 Jean Foillard Beaujolais Village
15 BOTTLES AVAILABLE
$29.99/BOTTLE
Jean Foillard is one of the original members of the “Gang of Four,” pioneering winemakers who turned away from industrial production in favor of the traditional approach to Beaujolais production we love. This wine comes from old vines planted in four plots around the region that are farmed organically. It’s fermented slowly with native yeast in cement & allowed to rest in cellar for 6-8 months, before being bottled with low doses of sulfur. It doesn’t have the staying power of the cru bottlings but retains all the freshness and fun one would expect from great bottle of Beaujolais.
2019 Jean Foillard Morgon Cuvée Corcelette
22 BOTTLES AVAILABLE
$48.99/BOTTLE
Corcelette is drawn from 80-year-old Gamay vines planted on sandstone in the Morgon Cru. All of Foillard’s wines are intensely aromatic and lush on the palate, but Corcelette always flaunts an extra bit of aromatic potency on a lighter, more lifted frame than the other cuvées. We would chalk it up to an obvious attention to organic farming and dedication to harvesting the healthiest fruit possible from this sandy parcel.
2018 Jean Foillard Morgon Cuvée Corcelette
18 BOTTLES AVAILABLE
$48.99/BOTTLE

2018 is an excellent, impactful Beaujolais vintage and this is a knock-out bottling of Corcelette.  Foillard beautifully captured the density and power of the vintage without sacrificing the delicacy of the aromatics - simply masterful! Beautiful now, this might be the most ageworthy bottling of Corcelette that we've tasted. Dont be afriad to lay a few down for the years to come.

2019 Jean Foillard Morgon COte du PY
24+ BOTTLES AVAILABLE | 6 MAGNUMS AVAILABLE
$48.99/BOTTLE | $105.00/MAGNUM
Foillard’s Cote du Py is the calling card from this great estate, sourced from old vines planted in the decomposed schist that defines this famous hillside in Morgon. It draws you in with inviting berry fruit and delicate floral notes lifted by impeccable freshness and crushed stone minerality. The texture is lithe and crunchy with impressive depth for how refreshing it is to drink. Astutely classic Cote du Py!
2019 Jean Foillard Morgon Les Charmes Eponym
12 BOTTLES AVAILABLE
$49.99/BOTTLE
This is a fairly new cuvée for Foillard, from 50 year old vines in the high-altitude site of Les Charmes. The stony soils coupled with the elevation here translates to a distinctly mineral and red fruited expression of Morgon; a wonderful counter point to the wines from the lower elevation Cote du Py hillside farther south in Morgon.
