The Single Oak Project was an intense, long-term experiment by Buffalo Trace to showcase the effects of wood, grain, and storage on whisky. This is incredibly nerdy stuff here, using 96 selected trees, barrels made exclusively from either the top or bottom half of the tree, charred differently, various entry proofs, and utilizing different recipes and storage conditions. Experiment concluded in 2016 so these are surely some of the last of these hanging around. Barrel 128 is a wheated bourbon that was put into barrel at 105 proof. The barrel was made from the bottom half of a medium grained tree that was seasoned for 12 months and lightly charred (#3). The whiskey was aged in a concrete warehouse.
