Camparo’s 2016 Barolo Boiolo is a special bottle of wine, one of the most delicate and filigreed wines we’ve tasted from Piedmont’s benchmark 2016 vinatge. Camparo is a historic, family-owned winery based in Diano d’Alba on Barolo’s northeastern edge currently run by Mauro Camparo. The farm was an early adopter of organic farming under Mauro’s stewardship and has been certified since the year 2000. Boiolo is a little-known MGA sandwiched between Brunate and Rocche dell’Annunziata in La Morra with Camparo’s holdings lying just over the crest of the hill from Brunate. The wine sports classic Barolo aromatics of sour cherries with autumnal notes of fallen leaves and pressed roses. The palate is lithe with very transparent color in the glass but plenty of robust flavor. There are faint grippy tannins and crunchy acidity that make this a wildly appealing young bottle of Barolo. Fermented in stainless steel with native yeast, aged in 25 HL botti.
