The soul-stirring wines from the supremely talented Richard Leroy from the famed Montbenault terroir have become nearly impossible to find, and especially expensive if you can even track them down. This Montbenault bottling from Bois de Brincon hits on a similar qualitative level, but is done in a much more generous, youthfully accessible style. Their 0.8 ha of vines here are old, averaging 50 years with many well over a century, and yields are correspondingly low. This is a deep, substantial, layered and complete bottle of Chenin. It leans towards the more classical end of the spectrum, with honeyed notes and excellent concentration. Its searing minerality and impressive purity make this a Chenin Blanc to take note of! Fermented and aged in 400-liter barrels.
