Domaine Chamonard begins with Joseph Chamonard who was committed to making wines unadulterated by chemicals or pesticides long before the trend became popular. It's important to remember that there was a time in Beaujolais when most of the wines were made in a commercial manner, with little to no care paid to the health of the vines. However, a few pioneers, Chamonard included, decided to go against the grain by eschewing chemicals and opting for a more natural style. Today, Joseph's son-in-law is in charge, maintaining the same philosophy as his predecessor. Their Morgon 'Clos de Lys' comes from plantings ranging from 50 to 100 years old. The style places emphasis on an abunance of fruit in the best possible way: ripe, complex and truly well-balanced. This is a bottle you can crack open today or bury away in the cellar--enjoyable either way. For food pairing, think roast chicken or pork chop.
