Beta’s importer, Vom Boden, likes to say: ‘Ketan Mody is Thoreau meets Fukuoka meets a Hell’s Angel, with a refined palate for sushi.’ Over a decade ago, Mody built a one-room, 20’ x 20’ cabin from the ground up at the top of the mountain in the Diamond District, and planted a vineyard nearby; this is quite a unique wine and origin. The Vare Vineayrd is the only Beta wine made from fruit on the valley floor in Oak Knoll in Napa. But unlike most valley floor Cabernet out there, this one weighs in at a featherweight 12.2% ABV! “The Beta wines have always offered a good deal of old-school power and structure. I have tasted these wines from the very early days. The 2019s are super-impressive. Floral, silky and red-toned, the Vare Cabernet is super-refined right out of the gate. Spice, blood orange and mint add lovely aromatic top notes. This gentle, inviting Cabernet is a charmer.
