A great dry yet complex white for a song that grows from the clay and limestone soils of Alenquer, just north of Lisbon. 45% Arinto--the ubiquitous Portuguese grape which grows from north to south in Portugal, which you can think of as 'the freshmaker', as it has excellent acidity--and 45% Fernao Pires, an oilier and more textured variety, rounded off with 10% Vital. The entire vineyard area is shaped by the cold winds blowing off the Atlantic Ocean 40km away, becoming trapped in the nearby mountains. This wine has a lovely dry entry, and the palate brings some added layers of complexity: delicate herbal nuances, bread dough, and spicy gingerbread slowly accumulate as the wine builds on the palate. As is often the case in Portugal: wildly overdelivers for the price!
