Anthony Thevenet is a young winemaker based in the village of Morgon in Beaujolais. He founded his estate in 2013 after stints working with Jean Foillard and George Descombes, about as great an education as one could hope for in the Beaujolais! Unsurprisingly, Anthony farms organically and utilizes carbonic maceration during his fermentations in much the same way his mentors do. He similarly uses tiny amounts of sulfur (20 mg/L total, with a tiny 1.5mg/L at bottling) to protect the wine as efficiently as possible. The Cuvée Julia is a great introduction to this winery; there is plenty of density and concentration matched with crunchy fruit and fabulous lift as well. The wine comes from vines planted in 1935, from a choice 1ha subsection of the Cote du Py vineyard. This is classic Cote du Py at a great price.
