Menetou-Salon is a small appellation 30 kilometers southwest of the larger, older, and far more commercially successful commune of Sancerre. Paul-Henry Pelle is a thoughtful producer who shows that the top sites here, with the right amount of care, can produce Sauvignon Blanc of a quality that rivals upper tier Sancerre without the matching price tag. This is a wonderfully expressive, generous Sauvignon Blanc from grapes grown on the southwest-facing Vignes de Ratier. Considering the vines see plenty of sun, there’s a luminosity, a vibrancy that radiates in the glass. On the nose, limes and minerality shine through. On the palate, you'll find a crunchy citrus bouquet and acidity for days. Buy this bottle, a dozen (or two) oysters and enjoy together.
